Closing Day and Moving Day

Now that the big day is here, be sure to do the following:

The Day Of The Move
Defrost refrigerators & freezers.

Pack first night items and keep them in separate boxes and in an easily accessible area in your car. (Toiletries, change of clothes, towels, sheets, phone, alarm clock, flashlight, pet food/dishes, paper towels, trash bags, medicines, coffee, paper plates, plastic utensils, refreshments, etc.)

Remember to leave behind cleaning supplies at the old home for the final clean up. (Vacuum cleaner, broom, cleansers, paper towels, rags, trash bags, etc.)

Moving Company Tip
When using a moving company:

  • Be present at both locations during the entire move to answer any questions the movers may have.
  • Be sure to go over all documents/inventories carefully before signing.
  • Keep copies of all documents/inventories handy until the move is complete.
  • Give movers written directions to the new home as well as parking/unloading
instructions and your emergency contact information.

Following The Move
Notify the Dept. of Motor Vehicles of your new address.
Do a change of address for your Driver's License. You may obtain the necessary forms on the internet.

Closing Day!
Your Agent and Lender will notify you of your closing appointment time.  Be sure to arrive at least 15 minutes early to avoid being rushed which will result in being nervous.  Make sure to bring a certified check for any funds required at the closing as well as your check book in case something small comes up.

Snags or delays are not very common but sometimes they do occur.  Don’t worry or get stressed if a delay does happen.  If this happens it is normally to make sure the title and other legal documents are exact before you sign.

Once you have closed and the paperwork is signed, the house is yours!  Congratulations on buying your new home.  This will be a very memorable day for you, so celebrate reaching the end of the new home buying journey!
